IMPORTANT INFORMATION ON FINANCIAL AID

Now that CERB has ended, the EI program is implementing temporary changes to help you access EI benefits. These changes will be in effect for 1 year.

How to transition to EI from CERB:

  • If you applied for CERB through Service Canada
  • If you still need income support after you’ve received the full CERB amount through Service Canada, in most cases, you do not need to apply for EI benefits.
  • If you applied for CERB through Canada Revenue Agency
  • If you’re currently receiving the CERB through the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), and believe you’re entitled to EI, you’ll need to apply through Service Canada.

You can apply here:

Legislation for the new recovery benefits is currently before Parliament. If passed, the benefits would apply retroactively to begin as of September 27, 2020 to avoid a gap in coverage after the CERB. More information on the proposed new Recovery Benefits will be made available online in the coming weeks.
